Local SEO

Local SEO for law firms that want the calls nearby.

When someone searches for an attorney in your city, three firms sit above everything else, next to the map. We work on your Google Business Profile, your reviews, your citations and your location pages so your firm is one of them.

Three firms get the call. The rest get scrolled past.

Local SEO for law firms helps your firm appear in Google Maps and local search results when potential clients search for an attorney in your area. It focuses on four key elements: optimizing your Google Business Profile, building a strong online reputation through reviews, maintaining accurate business information across the web, and creating location-specific pages targeting the cities and communities your firm serves.

For a search like “injury lawyer near me,” Google often displays a map featuring three local law firms at the top of the results. These listings put reviews, contact information, and directions directly in front of potential clients, making local visibility a valuable source of calls and consultations.

That’s why Local SEO is included in every one of our law firm SEO plans. No matter where your firm operates, appearing in relevant local searches can make the difference between being discovered and losing potential clients to competitors. Our free law firm SEO audit reveals where your firm stands in local search, identifies opportunities to improve your Google Maps visibility, and uncovers citation inconsistencies. From there, we build a stronger local foundation alongside the authority work in every SEO plan.

Local search decides who gets the call.

People rarely drive across the county for a lawyer. They search from where they are, usually on a phone, usually while the problem is still fresh, and they call whoever shows up first with good reviews. The three firms next to the map take most of that attention before anyone scrolls far enough to reach the ordinary results below.

That is why a firm with a weaker website can outrank you locally. Proximity to the searcher, the completeness of the Business Profile and the reviews carry weight in the map pack that they do not carry anywhere else, and none of it is decided by how good your site looks. It is decided by records: what the profile says, what the directories say, and whether the two agree.

The map pack takes the top of the page

For searches like "injury lawyer near me", Google puts three local listings and a map above the regular results. Firms that are not in those three are below the fold before the page even starts.

Most of those searches happen on a phone

Someone looking for an attorney after an accident is usually on a phone, close to home, and ready to call. The listing they tap is the one that shows up first with reviews and a phone number.

AI answers pull from the same local data

When someone asks an AI assistant for a lawyer in their city, the answer is built from the same Business Profile, reviews and citations that feed the map. Fixing local search feeds both.

Your Business Profile, field by field.

For many clients it is the first thing they see of your firm, before your website. Six parts of it decide whether they call.

  1. Primary category

The one field that decides which searches you can show up for. "Personal Injury Attorney" and "Lawyer" are not the same thing to Google.

  2. Services and practice areas

Each case type you handle, listed the way clients search for it.

  3. Hours and contact details

Matching your website exactly, so Google never has two versions of your firm.

  4. Photos and posts

Your office, your team and recent updates, so the listing looks alive.

  5. Questions and answers

The questions people ask before calling, answered by you and not by strangers.

  6. Reviews and responses

Recent, specific reviews, and a reply to each one, including the difficult ones.

What local SEO includes.

Five pieces of work, run together. Fixing the profile without the citations, or the pages without the reviews, leaves the listing stuck.

01

Google Business Profile

  • Categories, services and practice areas set correctly
  • Service areas, hours and contact details that match your website
  • Photos, posts and Q&A kept current
  • Fixing suspensions, duplicates and edits made by strangers
02

Review strategy

  • A simple way for your team to ask clients at the right moment
  • Responses to new reviews, including the difficult ones
  • Reviews spread across the profiles that matter, not just one
03

Citations and NAP consistency

  • Your name, address and phone identical everywhere they appear
  • Legal directories and the data sources Google reads
  • Old addresses and duplicate listings cleaned up
04

Location and practice area pages

  • A real page for each office and each city you want cases from
  • Written for the people searching, not stuffed with city names
  • Internal links so the pages support each other
05

Tracking that shows where cases come from

  • Calls, direction requests and messages from your profile
  • Map pack positions for the searches you care about
  • A monthly report you can read in five minutes

One firm, one address, everywhere.

Google compares your name, address and phone across dozens of sites, and it does not only read your website. It reads the legal directories, the bar listings, the data aggregators that feed half the internet, and the profiles somebody at the firm opened years ago and forgot. An old office on a directory, an “LLC” on one profile and a different phone on another, and it stops being sure which version of your firm is real.

That doubt costs positions in the map pack, where Google has to decide between firms that all look plausible. It is also the kind of problem that gets worse quietly: a firm moves suite, changes a tracking number or adds a second office, and the old record keeps circulating through the aggregators for years. We find every version that exists, correct the ones we can claim, file the corrections with the sources that feed the rest, and remove the duplicates competing with your real listing.

Your ranking changes block by block.

The Google Map Pack is location-dependent. Google ranks local results based partly on where the search is made, meaning someone searching two miles from your office may see a completely different top three than someone searching nearby. Your firm could rank first in one neighborhood and barely appear in another. A single ranking number won’t tell you the full story.

That’s why we track Google Maps rankings across a geographic grid covering your target market, rather than measuring performance from just one location. We identify where your firm is most visible, where competitors are outranking you, and which nearby cities or neighborhoods offer the greatest opportunities for growth. Whether your law firm serves one city, multiple counties, or several locations, our Local SEO strategy is built around the geographic markets and practice areas that matter most to your business.

  • 4 to 6: close
  • 7 to 9: visible on scroll
  • 10 or lower: not seen

The firm down the street is not better. It is easier to find.

Most map pack gaps come from a profile set up once and forgotten, and listings nobody cleaned. That is fixable, and it is usually where the first movement comes from.

Built for the way your firm is set up.

Local search works differently for a solo practice, a growing team and a firm with several offices. The work follows your map, not a template.

Solo attorneys

One office, one city, and a profile that has never been set up properly. This is usually the fastest result we see.

Firms with a team

You already get cases, but the firm two blocks away outranks you in the map for the practice area you want to grow.

Multi location firms

Several offices, each needing its own profile, its own page and its own reviews, without competing against each other.

Local SEO for every practice area.

A DUI arrest and an estate plan are searched from the same neighborhoods, in very different moments. Categories, services and city pages are set for the cases you take.

How the work runs

Four steps, from the audit to the next city.

The fixes come first, because they are where most firms see the first movement. A Google Business Profile that was set up once and never touched again, a category that describes the wrong practice, an old suite number still sitting in half the directories: none of that needs new content to be corrected. The pages and the reviews build from there, and the neighbouring cities come last, once the firm is solid in the one it is already in.

We map where your firm shows up today for the searches that bring cases, city by city and not just from your own office address, because local rankings change block by block. We read your Google Business Profile field by field, check your name, address and phone across the directories that feed Google, and look at the reviews and the pages of the firms ranking above you in the same counties. You get the map of where you stand before anyone touches anything.

We correct the profile, the citations and the inconsistencies that hold the listing back: the primary and secondary categories, the services and service areas, the hours, the photos, the old addresses and phone numbers still published in directories nobody has looked at in years. This is unglamorous work and it is where most firms get the first movement, often without a single new page being written.

We create the location and practice area pages that give each city a real reason to rank, with content about how the practice works there and not the same paragraph with the city name swapped. We set a review process your team can actually keep up with, so reviews arrive steadily instead of in bursts, and we start publishing to the profile.

We track positions across the grid, along with calls, direction requests and messages, every month and in the same report as the rest of your SEO. When the firm is solid in the city it is already in, we expand into the neighbouring cities and counties you want cases from, one at a time, in the order that makes sense for your practice areas.

We’ve been working with The Expert SEO for over a year, and the experience has been great so far! Before hiring them, our online presence wasn’t generating enough leads or the right quality of leads.

They helped us with website design, PPC, and organic and local SEO growth. We saw an immediate bump in website traffic early on, and since then the growth has been steady and consistent.

The increased online visibility has brought us more qualified leads and improved the overall performance of our marketing efforts. The team is responsive, transparent, and data-driven, which we really appreciate.

I would recommend The Expert SEO to business owners looking for a reliable digital marketing agency focused on long-term growth.

Robert Mitchell Robert Mitchell Verified by Trustpilot

We’re competing in a very difficult market, and they never promised overnight results. They built a strategy, executed consistently, and our visibility and consultations have continued to grow.

David Anderson David Anderson Verified by Trustpilot

We came to the team after working with another SEO company that wasn’t delivering the quality of leads we needed. Within months, we started seeing stronger visibility across our key practice areas and, more importantly, better inquiries. The communication has been excellent, and we finally feel like our marketing has a clear direction.

Elizabeth Warren Elizabeth Warren Verified by Trustpilot

What stood out from the beginning was how much time they spent understanding our firm before recommending anything. They looked at our market, competitors, practice areas, website, and the types of clients we actually wanted to attract. Instead of chasing traffic or rankings that don’t translate into business, the strategy has always been centered around qualified opportunities. Our organic presence has grown, we’re showing up for more valuable searches, and we’re receiving better consultations through the website. Just as important, the team is responsive, transparent, and always willing to explain what they’re doing and why. It feels much more like having a marketing partner than simply hiring another SEO agency.

Why do law firms trust us with their local search?

Roger Aguiar has spent more than seven years in search, and he built the agency around one kind of client. Local search for a law firm has its own rules, from the categories Google allows to the bar rules on reviews, and the team works inside them every day.

Questions about local SEO.

From the map pack to suspended profiles.

What is NAP consistency?

NAP stands for name, address and phone. Google cross checks the details it finds about your firm across directories, legal listings and your own site. When an old suite number or a former phone number is still published somewhere, that conflict weakens the listing. NAP consistency is the work of making every one of those records identical.

How many Google reviews does a law firm need?

There is no threshold that unlocks the map pack. What matters is how you compare with the firms ranking in your city for the same searches, and whether reviews keep arriving. A steady flow of recent reviews with replies counts for more than a larger number that stopped two years ago.

Do you work with law firms outside your own state?

Yes. We work with law firms across the United States, and local SEO is part of every plan wherever your firm is. The work starts the same way everywhere: we look at the cities you serve, the courts your clients search around and the firms already holding the map pack you want. Where your firm sits changes the research, not whether we can do it.

What is local SEO for a law firm?

Local SEO is the work that makes your firm show up in the map results and the local listings when someone nearby searches for an attorney. For a law firm it means your Google Business Profile, your reviews, the accuracy of your name, address and phone across the web, and pages built for the cities you serve.

How long does it take to show up in the map pack?

Profile and citation fixes often move positions within the first weeks, because they correct problems that are holding the listing back. Competitive practice areas in a large city take longer, and depend on reviews and on the pages we build. We report positions every month so you see the movement.

Do I need a physical office to rank locally?

You need an address that meets Google’s rules for your type of practice, and it must be consistent everywhere it appears. If you serve clients at their location rather than yours, the profile is set up as a service area business. We tell you honestly which of the two your firm is.

Can you fix a suspended Google Business Profile?

Often yes. Suspensions usually come from an address that does not meet the rules, a category that does not match the practice, or edits made after the profile was verified. We review the cause and handle the reinstatement request.

How do reviews affect local rankings?

Reviews are one of the signals Google uses to order the map results, and they are what a potential client reads before calling. We set up a process your team can follow, and we respond to what comes in. We never buy or incentivize reviews, which is against Google’s rules and against most bar advertising rules.

Do you build a page for every city?

Only for the cities where you actually want cases and can serve clients. A page for a city you do not serve is a page nobody reads and nothing ranks. We decide the list with you after the audit.

How much does local SEO cost?

Local SEO is included in every one of our SEO plans, which start at $2,999 per month. The final scope depends on your practice areas, how many cities you want to rank in and how competitive they are, and we confirm it after the free review.

Is local SEO enough on its own?

For a single office firm in a smaller market, often yes. In competitive metros, local search works better together with content, links and, in some cases, ads. We tell you which of those your firm needs instead of selling all of them by default.
